Educators gathered at Spencerville Adventist Academy (Md.) today for a conference-wide in-service to help ready them for the new school year which starts Tuesday, August 15. Ophelia Barizo, Chesapeake Conference STEM coordinator, invited representatives from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to discuss how to protect intellectual property for inventions using patents, trademarks and copyrights.

"During the interactive sessions, teachers learned how to integrate STEM learning across the curriculum so that a history, English or art teacher can use the principles." says Janesta Walker, Chesapeake Conference superintendent of schools. STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
