It is estimated that 11 million children in the United States are at risk of hunger. In response to this need, New Hope (Fulton, Md.) church partnered with Blessings in a Backpack, donating $6,000 to meet the needs of children at Swansfield Elementary School.
Blessings in a Backpack mobilizes communities, individuals, and resources to provide food on the weekends for elementary school children in need across America.
“Sandy Hartz, our church treasurer found out about the Blessings in a Backpack program and we thought this would be the perfect outreach project for Hope for the Holidays,” says Jason Decena, outreach and worship pastor at New Hope. “Moving forward, this is the type of project we would love to stay involved in.”
Kelly Klinefelter, Swansfield Elementary School Program Coordinator, was on-site to receive the gift and expressed her gratitude for the donation. “This will support 30 kids for an entire year and this is just a tremendous gift to our community,” says Klinefelter.
