Ellicott City Distributes Over 100 “Blessing Bags” to Homeless for Global Youth Day

On Sabbath, March 20, approximately  30 youth and young adults came out to the Ellicott City (Md.) church to put together more than 100 “blessing bags” for people in need. The event was held in conjunction with Global Youth Day, a global youth initiative of the worldwide Seventh-day Adventist Church.

“I felt reconnected with my friends and not only that, but I felt God’s love just flowing through us,” says Arven Claude, one of the young adults who participated.

The “blessing bags” contained an assortment of essential items including antibacterial wipes, socks, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, masks and food. The bags also contained either a copy of “Steps to Christ” or a few Bible tracts. After the bags had been assembled, the group prayed over the bags before the young adult ministry team distributed the bags to homeless individuals living in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

“It made me feel good knowing that I was involved in something that could help people in need,” says David Ogallo, one of the young adults who came out for the event.

Global Youth Day was launched on March 13, 2013. The vision of Global Youth Day is to recapture the reality of Adventist youth as a global movement mobilized for service, contributing to the proclamation of the everlasting gospel and ushering in the second coming of Jesus Christ.
