Javier Scharon was installed as pastor of the Dover First and Forest Grove churches in Dover, Delaware on May 1. The installation took place during Sabbath services at both congregations and was officiated by Eli Rojas, ministerial director for Chesapeake Conference.
Scharon, who graduated on May 2 with a bachelor’s degree in theology from Washington Adventist University (Takoma Park, Md.), previously served as the part-time youth pastor at Dover First and fills the vacancy left by Evan Knott.
“I feel that God has affirmed the call to ministry for me and my family,” says Scharon. “I look forward to serving God together with my family in this new capacity and seeing lives transformed with the power of the Gospel for the honor and glory of God.”
Prior to entering professional ministry, Scharon was self-employed as a contractor and active at the Dover First church as an elder and lay youth leader.
“God has gifted Pastor Scharon in so many ways, including a deep and trusting faith,” says Kevin Hoffecker, head elder at the Dover First church. “I’m thrilled that Dover will continue to be blessed with his dynamic, personable, and community-focused style as he serves as our senior pastor.”
Scharon is joined in ministry with his wife, Bonnizu, and their three children.
