Capital Brazilian Church Evangelism Week, Camp Meeting Leads to Seven Baptisms

Capital Brazilian Church in Highland, Md., held a special week of evangelism from Aug. 29 to Sept. 3 that led to four baptisms. The momentum carried into a regional camp meeting at Black Rock Retreat Center in Quarryville, Pa., where three more people were baptized.
Pastor Gilson Brito, host of the Voice of Prophecy radio and television program in Brazil, preached each night of the week, accompanied by music from the Arautos do Rei (The Brazilian King’s Heralds) quartet. The meetings drew many visitors to the church alongside its regular members.
The week of meetings closed with a weekend retreat, where 185 members and visitors gathered. The retreat offered opportunities for close fellowship and spiritual activities. For the Sabbath, Pr. Brito reminded attendees that “The Sun of Righteousness will soon arise,” emphasizing the soon return of Jesus Christ, the hallmark message of the Adventist Church.
To close the Sabbath, attendees gathered for an “Arautos do Rei” concert, featuring a Special Prayer for the worldwide proclamation event “All Things New,” part of the General Conference OneVoice27 initiative.
The Camp Meeting closed on Sunday evening with a distinctive night of music; guest quartet Ernie Haase and Signature Sound performed many gospel favorites that moved every attendee, creating a joyful, happy environment. The highlight of the evening was a joint performance of the gospel favorite “Then Came the Morning,” a song about the resurrection of Jesus, sung in English and Portuguese, with the “Arautos do Rei” and the Capital Brazilian Choir.
Marco Faria, pastor of Capital Brazilian Church, said the week brought the congregation together.
“It was very nice to see everybody in the church getting together,” Faria said. “It’s a whole structure of our members participating and helping create this event.”
Clarissa Williams, event director for Capital Brazilian Church, said she considered it a privilege to serve the congregation during the week.
“It was a privilege for me to be serving the church during these days,” Williams said. “I was very proud of the response that the church gave.”
The closing program was streamed online, where more than 15,000 people watched. To watch the whole event, please visit the Capital Brazilian Temple YouTube page: @CapitalBrazilianSDAChurch.
