Chesapeake Conference to Host ‘On The Move’ 1 Mile and 5K Run/Walk Oct. 25

  • News

The Chesapeake Conference of Seventh-day Adventists will host Chesapeake On The Move, a 1-mile and 5K run/walk, on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2026, at the conference headquarters in Columbia, Maryland.

The Health Ministries conceived the event to bring members and their communities together around physical activity and healthy living. Johnny Soria, the ministry’s director and assistant treasurer for the Chesapeake Conference, presented the plan and was asked whether it could still be held in 2026. The date of October 25 was set.

The race runs from 8 to 11 a.m. at the conference office, 6600 Martin Road in Columbia. Participants can choose the 1-mile run/walk, split into a youth division for ages under 16 and an open division for ages 16 and older, or the 5K run/walk, which welcomes runners and walkers of any pace with no age divisions.

Registration costs $10 per person for all participants. Each registration includes an official race T-shirt, a finisher medal, and a race bib. Participants can register online.

“The main goal is to get our people moving,” Soria said. “But we can use this opportunity to invite people who would not attend a church event to fellowship with us.”

The event reflects the conference’s “Alive. Together. On Mission.” vision, connecting physical health to the broader call for members to engage their communities.

Organizers are inviting churches throughout the conference to form teams and bring their communities to the Oct. 25 race.
