Chesapeake pastors and families retreat to rest, reconnect, and recharge

‘First Things First’ theme calls ministers to prioritize family health and wholeness

Pastors and their families from across the Chesapeake Conference gathered at the Hyatt Regency in Cambridge, Md., Feb. 14–16 for the conference’s ministerial family retreat, themed “First Things First.” The weekend emphasized the importance of pastors prioritizing the spiritual, emotional, and physical health of their families as a foundation for effective ministry.

Mike Tucker served as the featured speaker for the retreat. With more than 30 years of experience in pastoral leadership and media ministry (including more than 15 years as director and executive producer of Faith for Today), Tucker also holds a master’s degree in counseling from Andrews University. His presentations addressed the real challenges ministerial families often face privately, covering topics such as relationships, marriage, boundaries, and emotional health.

The weekend also included a Saturday evening banquet honoring pastors and their families for their ministry and service. Live music was provided by students from Washington Adventist University. A dedicated session for spouses offered an opportunity to connect and build relationships with others who share the unique experience of ministry life. Children and youth programming was provided for pastors’ kids throughout the weekend. Families also had free time to relax, spend time together, and forge new connections with colleagues from around the conference.
