Dover Hosts First Annual Marriage Retreat

“Intentional Marriage.”

Chesapeake Conference Ministerial and Family Ministries director, Eli Rojas, speaks during the Dover First church’s “Intentional Marriage” retreat.

Couples from the Dover (Del.) First church gathered at the Sandy Cove Ministries retreat center in North East, Md., from Feb. 4-6 for the church’s first annual marriage retreat.

The theme for the weekend retreat was “Intentional Marriage,” and featured presentations from Chesapeake Conference Ministerial and Family Ministries director, Eli Rojas, and his wife, Loida.

“The church decided to host its first annual retreat so that married couples could benefit from the opportunity of spending a weekend connecting with each other more intentionally,” says Javier Scharon, pastor of the Dover First church.

Couples enjoyed a relaxing weekend with opportunities to rest, hike outdoors, share meals, and participate in games and social activities on Saturday night. The highlight was an agape supper to close the Sabbath where couples renewed their marriage vows.

“The family is on the front lines of spiritual warfare,” Scharon says. “The devil knows that if he can interrupt God’s purpose for families, he can significantly impact the church. Therefore, our focus is on building healthy, strong, and influential families. After all, your family is your first church.”
