Equipping University Brings 180 to Evangelism Training

Equipping University is a conference-wide evangelism training program for lay leaders held in partnership with the North American Division Evangelism Institute (NADEI). 180 registrants from 27 churches gathered this past weekend on February 28-29 at the North American Division (NAD) headquarters (Columbia, Md.) for Chesapeake’s Equipping University 2020.

“After listening to the training seminars, groups held collaborative roundtable discussions and made plans for their church and community,” says David Klinedinst, church growth and evangelism director for the Chesapeake Conference. “This workshop is a way to help lay people become even more active and trained in various ministry skills, such as: leading out in a Bible study, visitation, having healthy conversations with secular people and talking about spiritual matters.”

This year’s seminar theme was “Living and Demonstrating the Gospel.” Attendance for the event was not limited to Chesapeake alone, as three churches joined from the Potomac and Allegheny East conferences. During the weekend, members networked and learned about topics of personal evangelism, witnessing and mission.

“Equipping University was full of practical resources for leaders to implement right away in the local church,” says Paulo Macena, lead pastor of Ellicott City (Md.) church. “The seminars were relevant and the content and knowledge shared are universal, it can be applied in any church of any size and culture.”
