Growing congregation celebrates milestone with special service

Life in Christ Church in Bear, Del., celebrated a significant milestone on Nov. 2, officially transitioning from “company” to “church” status. This recognition of the congregation’s growth and stability was marked by a special worship service, with Chesapeake Conference President Jerry Lutz and Executive Secretary Andre Hastick in attendance to celebrate alongside the members.

The service included a retelling of the church’s history, tracing its beginnings seven years ago as a church plant of West Wilmington Church. In support of the celebration, West Wilmington Church paused its regular Sabbath services, allowing its members to join in the festivities. Pastor Elvis Mogoi, senior pastor of West Wilmington and a key figure in Life in Christ’s founding, shared his reflections, expressing deep gratitude for the journey. “Some of the things we were afraid of, God surpassed our expectations and conquered our fears,” Mogoi said.

Initially, Life in Christ Church had only a few children, but what was once considered a potential weakness blossomed into one of its greatest strengths. Today, the church has a thriving children’s ministry, including active Adventurer and Pathfinder clubs. During the service, the children’s and youth choirs performed, adding to the joyful atmosphere and underscoring the church’s commitment to its young members.

Mogoi noted that God has continually provided for Life in Christ’s needs, from financial stability to strong leadership. “Every time we needed certain ministry leaders, God brought the right person to the church at the right time,” he shared.

As Life in Christ looks forward to the future, members are praying for God’s guidance in finding a permanent building to call their own.
