Providence church shares Bibles, prayer with thousands at Cecil County Fair

ELKTON, Md. — Providence Seventh-day Adventist Church handed out free Bibles, prayer and Bible-themed gift bags to fairgoers at the Cecil County Fair, an annual event that drew nearly 75,000 people over nine days.

More than 15 Providence church members volunteered at the booth from July 24 through August 1, staffing the table, assembling gift bags, and running a children’s arts-and-crafts station.

The church’s booth offered free prayer, Bibles, copies of “Steps to Christ,” and “The Great Controversy.” Volunteers packed drawstring bags for both adults and children that included Bible comic books and an invitation to attend Providence church. Members spent full days preparing the bags and distributed thousands of books by the fair’s end.

While children colored and crafted at a nearby table, other volunteers spoke and prayed with their parents. Rick Cala, district pastor, said the effort reflected the congregation’s heart for outreach.

“Elders Casey Kipe and Brian DeBusk, along with their families, have demonstrated a genuine commitment to the mission of Christ,” Cala said. “Their love for sharing the gospel and engaging with the community reflects hearts that are always looking for opportunities to reach people wherever God opens a door.”
