
Mission
The Chesapeake Conference Executive Secretary serves as the guardian of the corporate and ecclesiastical records of the conference. In addition, he provides direction and leadership to those maintaining the official records of membership for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in the conference. He also lends support and aid to the Conference President in service to the Constituency of the Chesapeake Conference by supporting 500 employees, 64 churches, 10 companies, 2 groups, and 14 schools. This is accomplished in the following ways:
The preparation, recording and maintaining of:
- Executive Committee agenda and minutes
- Personnel Subcommittee agenda and minutes
- Conference Administrative Committee minutes
Support to the human resources department, which is responsible for:
- Hiring
- Termination
- Retirement
- Employee mediation (with care, concern, and confidentiality)
- Employee Handbook development
- Coordination of policy development and orientation
- Maintenance of employee service records
- Process employee licenses and credentials
- Employee training in professional ethics and standards
Support to the Conference Membership Clerk:
- Oversight of membership functions
- Membership records
- Statistical records and archives
- Conference directory
- General Conference Yearbook
Ministry to conference churches in the following ways:
- Officiating functions
- Preaching
- Organizing mission groups, companies, and churches
- Conference ministry and social functions
- Conflict management for churches, schools, and personnel when initial first-level resolution is unsuccessful
- Member of Crisis Management Team
Ministry in support of the conference office operations:
- Employee training and development
- Communication
- Grievance and advocacy process
- Regular meetings with hourly staff
- Office socials
- Interface with legal counsel in representing the interests of Chesapeake Conference and its constituents
This office is headed by the Conference Secretary, Jerry Lutz, and staffed with an executive assistant, Jennifer Stefan, and Conference Membership Clerk, Pam Strahle. In this quinquennium, the conference has experienced an unprecedented level of service delivered in support of our employees, ministries in the field, and in the organization and support of newly formed churches and companies. The Secretariat office is privileged to give its best in ministry and service to Chesapeake members, its employees, and its churches and schools.
