The Chesapeake Conference’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program has not only positively impacted students over the years, but teachers as well.

Five of our Chesapeake educators recently achieved Nationally Certified STEM Educator Status, after having proven proficiency in 15 STEM teacher action essentials in the areas of creating an environment for learning, building scientific understanding and engaging students in science and engineering practices.

Ophelia Barizo, Chesapeake Conference STEM coordinator; Colleen Lay, Highland View Academy (HVA) STEM coordinator;  Myrna Nowrangi, HVA STEM teacher; and Paty Serrano, Spencerville Adventist Academy (SAA) High School STEM coordinator, were awarded the Nationally Certified STEM Educator certificate from the National Institute for STEM Education (NISE). Lynette Sigh achieved her STEM certification through NASA.

In addition, Highland View Academy also completed requirements to become a STEM Certified School through NISE. We congratulate our educators on this noteworthy achievement!
